Mountains of Mihintale, Sri LankaM PG's cradles.
In the fifth decade of the second century before Christ, Ashoka held a Congress of the classic episode last Tuesday in the capital of Pataliputra. At the end of this episode, the disputes on a number of issues in this Dhamma has been resolved, the monks not purity has been expelled from the Sangha, and especially the decision establishing the monks take Buddhism in those countries, the various territories. False Religion Mahinda, the son of Ashoka, was chosen as the head of a mission to the area in the South. The monks of this Royal family and the people you have left and gone to Pataliputra Videsha, where they stay in a short time, may be they have stayed at the monastery of Sanchi. According to historical record, said the mission was probably to spread Buddhism in a positive way at the Videsha for a time before coming to Sri Lanka. Nonetheless, the Mission undoubtedly came to Gokanna (Trincomalee) and finally stopped at Mihintale, Anuradhapura, about 13 km to the East.

King Devanampiya Tissa with some of his hunting trip in the mountains, suddenly encountered the stranger for the yellow robes. The King was quite amazed the monks, but false Religion did Mahinda reassure King: "Tâu King, we are monks, disciples of ấng Enlightenment. we came from India, arrived here with love for the King and his people". Tâu the King to reassure, and false religion, the King asked Mahinda a few questions to probe into the possibility of wall, am. Then let's Mahinda teaching for the King and his retinue on the basic teachings of Buddhism. After teaching life, King Tissa has sometimes monks came to the capital Anuradhapura the next day to teach Dhamma to the Royal family. Be at the invitation of King Tissa, the next day the same Religious Mahinda fake monks have marched on the Palace of the King and the French teacher to the Royal family.
The original name of Missaka Pabbata is Mihintale, then called Cetiyagiri (mountains of towers), and its current name is derived from the hypothetical Religion Mahinda. His Show at the French visit Mihintale, had 2,000 monks lived on the mountain. Mr. Mahinda spent the rest of his life in the mountains and Mihintale tablets President there in 202 before Christ. After the great funeral, his ashes were worship in the stupa around the country of Sri Lanka, and the course is part of the worship to be ashes in a Stupa on the Mihintale. The King Devanampiya Tissa has created 68 cave on Mount Mihintale let monks practice. This is confirmed in an intelligent posts on the precipice of one of the caves near the Tower Kantaka.

On the mountain of Mihintale there remain traces of an ancient hospital. The ruins is surrounded by the beautiful mango fresh. The architecture of the monument shows the entrance to the hospital is located on the South side, at the bottom there is a gate leading to the courtyard outside. To the right is a relic of the hot tubs or saunas. According to historical record, said the hospital has 27 rooms for patients and four larger rooms to be used for other purposes that are built around a courtyard, and there's a small Buddha power in the middle of the yard. In the large room in the Northeast is a Turkish drug therapy. The hospital like this is not to serve the public but rather for nursing and care for the monks and the people who work in the monasteries there.
The mountains have a patented Mihintale stone terraced mountains are great. Terraced this level longer than 300 metres and have up to 1,840 tier level. This is one of the largest scales, and the impression that we are very rarely seen in other places. Look at the upper levels, we can imagine the work time and the power of human intelligence, which has had in creating it. The left side of the upper level's having multiple columns of the monastery are the ruins still remain.

Follow the steps given and then turning left as monuments of the categories of monks. along the North and East of the dining room has two very large rice trough of stone, has a length of almost 7 meters. The size of the trough indicates that they have offered rice to a very large number of monks, and certainly two zone size should have been unable to put in the category fairly modest at the bottom. Perhaps the monks to get food in there, and then to a different place to eat. In a footnote of history, said that there are 12 cooks work in this category. Besides there is a supervisor and a few service whose mission is to provide firewood for the kitchen.
From the categories go in a terraced level leads directly to the main Office of Mihintale. On either side of the door came into power in large slabs of two public schools, on the bottom, carved a clever article. The surface of the stone is polished and the inscription on the bottom is engraved. Intelligent posts on the two stones which was then led by King Mahinda fourth. It is one of the longest and articles attraction in ancient Sri Lanka's still lingers. Illustrated article tells us much about the life and activities of the clergy at Mihintale.

At the foot of the mountain there is a water tank with a fixed stone lions pose grabbed water tank at the top of it. The lion and the cistern was carved from a large stone slab. Because the rocks were cut on the one hand should be enough to make up the tanks intact, so that the rocks were stacked to create reservoirs. The second stone is a transplant perfectly, so that water does not leak out. Around the mouth of the vessel decoration, carving images of dancers, wrestlers, elephant, stars and other musicians. The water is led from a Naga in the mountains on the tank and flush to the mouth of the lion. It is not used to eating, only used in the shower, dry.
A Naga, which is a small natural lake located in Mihintale in the mountains. Due to the demand for water for domestic use by the monks in the mountains of Mihintale for so it has been enlarged and embellished Lake's by up to shore around and dig deeper. In the bordering cliffs of Lake had carved the shape of head of seven serpent Naga jutting out of the cliffs, so that the Lake is called Naga.
On the campus of Mount Mihintale there is also a cave and it is thought that the cave is where Mahinda supposedly Religiously have stayed there the first time he came to Mihintale. On the background of the action he had carved a rectangular stone block with logos for the y are folded and false Religions that were once located on Mahinda.
Another well worth the history, the culture of utmost importance at Mihintale, which is the Khantika Tower. Khantika Tower for visitors to one of the most ancient sculpture of the country Sri Lanka. It is not known exactly who is who has built this tower and build houses. Documents referring to this first tower is on the Lanjatissa (109-119).
And as mentioned above, in order to prepare for his stay Mahinda and monks, King Devanampiya has formed many caves in on mountains of Mihintale. So far several caves still survive and are preserved quite well.
Currently, Mihintale mountain is one of the historical importance of Sri Lanka and is the tourist pilgrimage draws pilgrims in the country as well as internationally.
