Perhaps education Christianity and Judaism of the West has made many
people tend to see what the suspect is a shame, to see it as the enemy.
People feel
that if they suspect, it means that they are denied the doctrine, while they
should have a faith without question. Currently, in some religions, beliefs query-believe
blindly-still considered the qualities required of the faithful. But Buddhist momentum not
require it. When it comes to teaching, the Buddha said, "come and see" or "come to
discover the truth"; He did not say "come to believe". An open mind and know that
questioned absolutely not be considered as an obstacle for those who believe in
Buddhism. However, an official said: "This is not in the frame my perception, so I
do not believe" it is a closed mind, and a new attitude is a major disadvantage
for those who have any desire to pursue a spiritual path. In contrast, an open mind,
always asking questions and not accept things just because it was said, did not
encounter any difficulties.
A well-known texts about a
group of villagers to visit the Buddha. They said to Him, "Many teachers have gone through
this. Each
position has its own doctrine. Each of them have stated that the philosophy and the
practice of it is the truth, but all of these are opposed to each other.
Now we really
confused. We
should do. " Is that sounded very modern story? But it was a story of twenty-five centuries ago.
The same
problems. Buddha answered, "You have the right to panic. It's a puzzling situation.
Do not believe
in anything simply because it traditionally has been transferred, or because
your teacher says so, or because the religious order's head so you have to teach
you, or for it has been written in popular texts. When you are self-perceived
and self-experience that is true, is true, then you can accept it.
"
At that time, it was a
speech advice revolutionary nature, because obviously the Buddha also said that
to his teachings. Trans xuốt ages, we know that the teachings of the Buddha are there to be
discovered and experienced by the individual. So people do not need to
hesitate when there is doubt. Indeed, Stephen Batchelor, an author of many works
on Buddhism, has published a book titled Faith to doubt (The Faith to Doubt)
. We put the
question to be true. But we need to question with an open heart and an open mind, not with the
idea that what is consistent with the notion that we know is true, and whatever
opposed to these ideas are of course wrong. Following behavior is the
same case 'the bed of Procustes'. I have a the appropriate preset mold, and whatever
we happen to encounter or elongated or truncated to fit that mold. That just distort things
and impede learning.
If we happen to encounter
certain things that we find difficult to accept even if we have to investigate
to find out a very careful way, it also does not mean that the entire teachings
contained it should be discarded. Even now, after many years of study, I still find in
the teachings of the Tibetan people have things that I'm not entirely sure.
I often find
my lama and consulted him about things like that, and he used it, "That's fine.
Obviously, she
has not really had a connection with that particular theory. That is not the problem.
Just brushed
it aside. Do
not say, "Oh no, that's not true." That say, "At the moment, my mind is not quite catch
that." Later,
she may appreciate it, but maybe she will not catch it. That does not matter.
"
When we encounter an idea that we find difficult to accept, especially if
it is a character essential to the teaching, the first thing we should do is to
find out our problems him with a mind without prejudice. I can read anything
reading-related issues, not only from the perspective of Buddhist teachings, but
if there are many different ways to approach the problem was, we need to read
the document anymore. We need to ask such problems connected with other parts of the teachings.
We must put
our cognitive abilities on it. At the same time, we should recognize that our
cognitive abilities is still a worldly awareness. We still do not have a
broad mind. We
only have a very limited view. So definitely there are countless things that
ordinary secular perception of us it is impossible to experience in a direct
way. But that
does not mean we can not get enough of what does not exist.
Again, it is important to
keep an open mind. If others have a deeper experience and mental resistance more than that
they have experienced something, at least, we should be able to say, "Maybe this
is the case '. I should not be limited mind and ignorance of our standards.
But we must
remember that the mind is limited and our ignorance can be completely
transformed.
It is all the way towards.
Our minds
become more open and more liberal as we progress. We begin to see everything
more clearly, and as a result all the things started to slowly mold.
We need to be
patient. We
should not expect to be able to understand the explanation of a profound wisdom
in mind the first time we happen to meet. I am sure that we all know to a certain number of
works about the wisdom that we can read over and over again year after year;,
and every time you read, we still feel like we read them for the first time.
That's because
our minds are expanded, we began to explore the story deeper level of meaning
that we can not see in the previous reading. True spiritual path is much
the same. It
stages of sense, and we can only understand the concept of hierarchical access
by our current level of consciousness.
I think everyone has
different problems. I know there are things that some people find very difficult to grasp,
but too simple for me. I believe a lot of things in my teaching before to
the Dharma. In
contrast, there are things very difficult for me, others that it is very easy to
understand and accept. We all come from different education, and the like,
each of us has his own problems. But it is important to identify the problem that is
not a great story. That is no problem at all. The doubts and queries we motivate us to keep us
alert and intellectual.
There have been times when
my whole spiritual life is under a big question mark. But instead of ignoring
these questions, I have taken each issue one to query and examine thoroughly.
When I went
through, I realized that it simply is not the problem. We can completely happy
with a question mark. Finally, it is no problem at all, as long as we do not strengthen it or
put our entire lives feeling threatened by it. We need to develop
confidence in the intrinsic qualities that can bring fruit. We all have Buddha-nature.
We have all
the qualities needed to follow the path. If we do not believe it, it will be very difficult
for us to engage because we do not have a foundation from which to go to.
It's very
simple. Buddhism is not based on dogma.
But why believe that we have the Buddha nature is so difficult for us?
Basically
because of our state of mind, because we lack the knowledge of who we are and
what our role is in this life. Since we do not know who we are, we feel far away
from others. That is the sense of 'self', that feeling to make up for all of us fear,
anger, attachment, jealousy, and insecurity. But Buddha said that the
incident is not obliged to do so. Our inherent nature is pure. All what we have to do is
detect that we really are, and that the direct purpose. It's very simple.
It is not
based on faith, which is actually based on experience, and experience leads to
awareness. The
problem is not learning what the Lamas teaching, or what tradition says, and
believe that it will save us. Path is not our salvation. Of course, we need to know
what the Buddha said. We need to know what the old master said, because he has gone before us
and have left us with a map so that we can follow. That is a bit like reading
a Journey. We
can read a Journey and felt that we were in Journey to where it comes, but we
never really there. The only thing is the travel experiences of someone else. Because when we go there,
we will have our own experiences. Direct route is to take the experience of this path
for yourself. Experience was not based on what others describe. It is not based on blind
faith. Of
course, we need a certain degree in order to buy a ticket and begin your own
journey. We
believe that country exists and it is a lovely place. But over it, it is
important that you leave. And as I go, I can tell myself: "Yes it is the path
that their predecessors had described. Right. The road looks the same. "
