Practice The Four Immeasurable Heart-
Lesson 3: why do we need to learn the Dharma?

.
Some Buddhists originally went to the temple for years you would ask that:
"Why do we need to learn the Dharma more so, while we can meditate or practice directly, no need to spend a lot of time to learn the material that we have read a lot".
We would like to answer this question with an example: the old days in the history of human thought to begin to know, know, know the love of music, is because people know of animal species clones. As the morning moved on our ancestors of old period of no music out there and hear the chatter, the sense that something special or, then, the animals that it cried out for, it's tru, it let out etc. The sound that sounds left in our hearts a sense of something special. Our grandparents had the feeling when hearing the sound, sometimes grandparents we want to hear at this point which really wants to hear, but not birds always sing, not streams always rings should be grandparent we copy the sound, and from then on people started thinking of music. Although the music has had on this earth long long, to the point where we no longer remember that from time to time the first instruments humans is known, but we know that in a hundred years there have been a lot of changes in terms of music in human societythat change, because technical progress, but that progress although not related to music, yet has great artistic labor of humanity that is the invention of the launch system and the system of sounds, the inventor of the instrument, electric instruments. Make sure you know that when we sing only to give some people a little hearing because sound of we can't grow enough for the hundreds of thousands of listeners, the music is different, now the lead singer if not great sound to make, the biggerthe sound system was not good singers nor good. So when the audio system is available as an improvement then the music changed a lot, the old days of our instruments are very simple, very primitive, which gradually becomes more sophisticated, and especially since the instrumentation that is used i.e. power generator on guitar, on the drums, as well as the other instruments, we found that both the background music changes.
We don't want to tell the story of this music as a story of ancient life in the backwater, but we want to tell this story as an example, for example, what is it? for example, it is in the spirit of the Dharma, then life would forecast would people also have good people and bad people, people of good which is the degree to which the Buddha called degrees of goodness, those elements which were in the midst of human society is dedicating some sayingsthese sayings which are based on the books was by word of mouth or enshrined in the family in a clan, but ladies you these sayings are often very discrete, not merely fragmentary without strong enough to convey the tone and some of the manyso when Lord Buddha was born of his teachings is called "literally means '".
What is literally stuff?
The word "Student Tools" means full.
The word "means" that is the reason that makes sense.
Written verbal means.
In terms of interpreting the ways of expression and reason of the round be enough in teaching of the Buddha, this is a very important words when we refer to the "sufficiency means literally" because? because the Buddha Himself confirmed that the truth is very high but if not artfully describes the full range of language to adequately describe the method that can't go into the soul and unable to keep survive long upon the Earth.
So then we need to, we need to the teachings of the Buddha to do? because each time there is a different culture. If you are also the one that sense that you are a person with a high cultural level and if Word of mouth is so rude sometimes we don't hear and don't hear the in. As now these are very subtle man era of music, a music or a poem is recited in a very normal way is not enough to go on in the Palm, which grows on a music or a poem should be soaked are ca and recordings in a sophisticated, so that we may enjoy the human level has started. So are we not slaves or servile books, let's not do that work, restored people's work? How to feel the Dharma in everyday life and to apply the Dharma to our true life, but on the way there, we need a lot of media, one of the essential means by which is how to learn the Dharma is meant. So today in this Eight tu students although we spend so many hours to favor rather than learning, yet still have a Dharma we wanted to be prepared for you, in fact, this document is not yet prepared for a course that it is a set ofthe book is of paramount importance in Buddhism, we say important here not to advertise that we will spend a little time to talk about the history of this series.
The old days when the Dharma is spread over the then most instrumental in spreading Buddhism he is a King, a King lived close to the time of the Buddha, there are only two hundred years after the Buddha Park Chairman, that King is a King is seen as a Qin Shi Huang of Indiaon the aspect of this King has consistently been to India, the Qin dynasty unified China as to how the news is that King Ashoka had to unify a vast frontier of India, about two hundred years after the Buddha Himself were President. Just as the King of Qin Shi Huang, Ashoka United the country by violence, but other than the King of Qin Shi Huang's after unification and the ultimate high power Emperor did not continue the rule of his blood lust, but the King has changed a tremendous change never before seen in the history of India as well as calendar enable the human race. From a tyrant ruling his land use, proceed to conquer the world, Ashoka became a Buddhist. After becoming a Buddhist, the King has to do four things and four things are viewed as hopeful owners:
1) the former is itself the King lived with the French Government abandons the executioner staff do not continue to use military force to invade distant neighbors.
2.) the second one is the King has taken the French Government like a true Constitution to govern, and what he needs to know to do the King shall consult with the Monks.
3) the third thing the King did a very hard job to do, which is though to be a Buddhist trust three jewels but Ashoka still nurture a spirit of cosmopolitanism, a generous spirit toward all religions, the King continued to become a not for Buddhism which became the legal guardian for all the religionsin other words, all the religions all enjoy the Statute supported the King's support, and at the same time the King was available to all religions the practice and acts.
4) But the important thing is the largest of the Ashoka, we say Wednesday the King did give, that is the King has sent some Monks the monastery is a Buddhist foot-foremost into neighboring countries such as Thailand, Burma, Laos, Cambochia, Ceylon, etc. Afghanistan, Abode, Lady Rose, Skim today to do the work of the rioting in France, public television show that far from out of the King has great benefit enormously, and many Buddhist countries that are prosperous Directors today still view Buddhism as the State religion is due to the initiative of Ashoka.
Not that we referred to as related to this series. We just want to talk to Asoka as a beginning of a historic building. At the King send Monks all over the place, among Monks there held a Rose that today the people Of Finland also worship, the Increase of which named Mahinda. Mahinda was a Saint Rose with very special biography, He was a Prince and son of Ashoka, both important leaders of high German Saints, erudite academic, but also have the extremely special. Upon arrival in the island Ceylon, Mr. Mahida has brought all the essence of Buddhism and culture and convey the cultural tradition of lang shining, that today the Area is oil Spreads over the old school just like rookie followers are cult and the threshold a brilliant culture and made from a remote island nation has become one of the cultural center of humanity.
When Mr. Mahinda brought Buddhism to Ceylon then just over two hundred years after the Buddha Park, and at the time was the Buddhism has a lot of nuances about the same as the Buddha era y at that. What is impermanent and even religions including cultures. Although Buddhism to Ceylon for a long time, India at the time of birth of an event, the event that is Buddhism when it was developed with extensive chemical analysis situation creates, generates three-star status checkpoint duty, meaning the Scriptures gradually by word of mouthmisleading notes, were gone. One of the list raises Indians arrived of Ceylon, He named Buddhaghosa. He went to Ceylon with is going to use sources of Buddhist Area to correct the system of Buddhist sutras. When He went to Ceylon, he did the job is probably very new and with time, it is the Third Amendment, He brought all the articles Buddhism of Ceylon and India's collaboration and to look very carefully, with a meticulous study of his best in yearsand he identified the notes would close and be able to maintain that a glossary of Cambodian Buddhism and what it takes to turn off. When He brought all the classics of Buddhism up to do a job, then an idea conceived in his mind is vast indeed is Classic about one like volume, now how can reach for this after learning about the consequences the person can read the Scriptures without fear of misleading that in which both France and action, that is just learning to expand knowledge and ethical, and ultimately he has to write a book, the book became immensely famous in Buddhism that is his Visuddhimagga.
His Visuddhimagga says about seven allowed purity based on gender, Which, on intellectual property, the Three degrees, and have been the Buddha Himself taught, because the Visuddhimagga has the effect as French and French, it became bed Pillow Book for many generations of Buddhists. In 1949 a British officer stationed in Germany, he went to Ceylon to admitted a new work of Ceylon, at the time, the British officer who accidentally come into contact with the Dharma and become monks, after the monks, the officers had a name that today in Buddhist scholars are familiar with it's Him Nanamoli. Mr. Nanamoli although not much life and times became monks, only ten years, but when He suffered a severe illness and death, the Buddhist world have remembered Him Nanamoli as one of the Rising has devoted in bringing Buddhism to the Western culture. He translated numerous Nanamoli translates works from Pali into English, not translated that do a job editing that is presented to a very bright is coherent. His work Nanamoli doing a lot, one of the dedication that is the Khuddakapàthaatthakathà Annotation is an annotation of texts important as Happiness, Compassion, Tam Bao Jing, etc. And other great works He Nanamoli was leaving before his death it was to translate the Visuddhimagga i.e. his Visuddhimagga of Buddhaghosa Him into English. As he translated his partial segments a and he notes how the presentation is the same as the whole arrangement as a modern presentation now. When we went to Thailand in the Temple of wat Phananchoeng Temple, there are a lot of English and Raise the very distinguished in terms of language on the outside, the situation has seen some things that a translation of the Visuddhimagga is a great value in terms of language.
We think that Ashoka sending his beloved son is Mr. Mahinda to Ceylon then Asoka was doing a real great devotion He brought Buddhism to the island, and the island has maintained continuous Buddhism 2300 years and has maintained the original medicine of Buddhism till today. From the national leaders that a list is Mr. Buddhaghosa did a work is vetted first Tripiṭaka, not just editing and written notes that He wrote a section of the table of contents is first, and a seismic record that carries the Visuddhimagga i.e. his Visuddhimagga is a set of very you. The book has been a very special charm is translated into English and is editing again under the current method by which Nanamoli now we think there will be no one can do the work the second English translation of the Sanskrit word to such language.
However the States of this work has not stopped there, and several years ago, a person that is very familiar to Buddhists of Vietnam which is the translator of the book "Xuanzang-See Bai and Scholars" which is the translation of the book "the story of" River giòng. "The story from a translation of" River giòng files so the reputation of Siddhartha Hermann Hesse, and who it is who translated the book "thought Buddhist studies" which was formerly known as "the escape line," is a translation of paramount as worth as the textbook and the Nuns Prefer American Naval Intelligence. Situation would have read the books Buddhist Vietnam, you've known Women Like Nuns Naval Position. Women's Naval Position Like nuns although after years of struggle for freedom and was deported back to the first job is to remove his remaining time to translate his Visuddhimagga into Vietnamese and European HT had once said "only the name Like American Naval Intelligence was secured for the work and not need to be lengthy." Did you read the book "Buddhist thinker" or "story" the River giòng can feel very very flexible pen outside the Philippines, a written translation is faithful to the original and Visual literature close to the Vietnamese literature Professor she has done work that is translated in the form of light. We think this is the best translations until now we still to believe there won't be a second translation is better than this translation from English to Vietnamese.
