My first real encounter with
Kalachakra tantric tradition in late 1973. I was living and studying in
Dharamsala, India. The Dalai Lama will lead a Kalachakra ceremony for the
public, and I decided to attend. Hearing that he presided over the ceremony, everyone in the
community joy flooded Tibet with tangible ideas. Venue for the ceremony is Bodh
Gaya (Bodh Gaya) - A small village, quiet town of Gaya, Bihar state a few miles
to the south.
Bodh Gaya is considered the
spiritual center of Buddhism in the world. At least in the sense that the
early history of this place. This is where the monks blow enlightenment under the Bodhi
origin and where he became Buddha. Of the eight holy places of Buddhist pilgrimage in India.
Bodh Gaya is
considered most sacred. Indeed, some Buddhist traditions also say that all of a
thousand Buddhas of this life is responsible for the realms of sentient beings
will become enlightened in Bodhgaya.
XIII Century - XIV, Islamic
Turkish invasion that devastated this area. Muslims especially brutalized
Buddhism in India. They say: When Nalanda monastery was surrounded. All monks were beheaded on the
spot. All
blood stained walls. Temples and libraries were burned. All statues and reliefs crushed
wild.
Center Bodhgaya Buddhist past is
just a ruin. With a few shops and restaurants poor countries.
A number of
"slum" in the back, and Stupa few other houses can only be seen as the simple
accommodation of mankind. The main stupa and below ground gardens are great
monuments. Together with Bodhi Bodhi descendant of the original
Buddha. There
are still many statues and worship is largely buried should escape destruction
during Muslim attacks.
After the dismantling of Islam.
Bodhgaya is no
longer the center of international pilgrimage again. World Buddhist pilgrims find other
places more convenient as the Central Asian pilgrims in Lhasa - the capital of
Tibet, the Chinese go Wutai Mountain, Japan to Kyoto. Bodhgaya only flourishes
on in the 1950s. When Prime Minister Nehru proposed a Buddhist country in
the world should build a temple here. Since then, more than a dozen
temples have been planted.
In the late '50s. Early '60s to 1973 wave of
Tibetan refugees to India created many new activities in Bodh Gaya. With the presence of the
high Tibetan Lama. The Tibetan delegation pilgrims at Bodh Gaya caught the
attention of the origin of Buddhism in the Himalayan ranges. From Ladakh, Lahoarl, Spiti and
western Kinnanr to Sikkim, Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh upper east. All of the Tibetan
Buddhism. In
the winter months, when the weather in Bihar state becomes soft. Thousands of people to
worship where the Buddha attained enlightenment also known as Diamond
coordinates.
When the news the Dalai Lama
personally preside over the Kalachakra ceremony in the sacred place for the
first time. The entire Buddhist Himalayas are vibrant. Two months before the
ceremony for the celebration. The group of pilgrims began to congregate at Bodh Gaya.
Most of them
want to chant a few hundred thousand times the main mantra of this pilgrimage.
Or a hundred
thousand times a year prostrate body stretching forehead to the ground,
including two shoulder two knees. Others intend to circumambulate the stupa of several
thousand rounds. Ceremony for the Dalai Lama would be great for the end of
their devotion.
For Central Asia. Kalachakra ceremony for the
major conferences as well as Buddhism. People go to the village or the
tribe. Old,
young, big, baby. Ride, walk or Hold, carrying on his back. Springing up around the
buying and selling services, talk to the pilgrims. Most pilgrims carry a few items to
sell for money spent on his return journey. These small items the most common.
Somewhere
there are also stalls selling a cloth on the road. In celebration of the Bodh Gaya in
1985, including a circus, the wheel spins and swings round. With the air of a recreation field
.
Do nomadic tradition is still
strong so Tibetans do not seem to bother much about the lack of comfort of
living in Bodh Gaya. Some reside in temples in the area with meager facilities.
Others hire a
small porch or in the nearby villages. Most tents on the banks of any
song or any vacant land parcels. Indian Army placed a large drinking water systems and
mobile toilets and in a short time, a tent city sprang up. Of the Kalachakra ceremony in
Bodhgaya in 1985 more than three hundred thousand people
attended.
Among those attending the point.
Very few
people practice meditation seriously the tradition of Kalachakra. Maybe in a hundred new
practice allows a simple chant daily as Guruyoga subjects (consistent master).
In one out of
thousands of people may have found a real desire to practice yoga six.
And among
these people only come to a retreat at an essential part of the
practice.
Most participants sat for the
ceremony not to be the energy transfer (value at) as permission to practice
meditation. They came to be mixed on the glory of the spiritual
community with information Lama presides. In this case, the Dalai Lama, they
hope to get a little spiritual power of the festival. They also hope to create an
affinity with, and the Shambala Lama - pure magical Land of Kalachakra
teachings.
Before the ceremony the director,
often preaching in five or six days. These teachings start at noon and
continues until dark. People sit on mats in the sun and listening to children
playing among the adult group. The lactating mothers while older people secretly asleep in
the shade. Scholarship steady bass voice of the Dalai Lama on their
surfing from a speaker system.
This study was said in the
teachings are similar to those presented in this essay: "Prerequisites To Be The
Religion of esoteric Buddhism" of the Dalai Lama VII. Following are some teachings of
the official ceremony. Begin with a dance celebration of the Lama, said the
ceremony venue and the ceremony of the offering. This is followed by two or three
days the director. Usually there is a holiday "Gurupuja". Lama sermon in which a point
before the ceremony ended.
Finally, the participants lined up
throughout the Assembly made provisionally on the graph made of colored sand
mandala of Kalachakra tradition. They passed before the Dalai Lama to be blessed by placing
his hand on top. In the 1973 ceremony for the Dalai Lama "Manual
Transmission capacity" or "Chakwang" during the two days. I decided to go in line with the
eyes looking down the style homage to the Tibetans. When you go through before the
chair and put his hand to touch up my short beard. Startled I looked up and saw the
smiling Dalai Lama.
Thus, the ceremony for the last
from ten to twelve days. Participants gathered from noon to dusk. In addition each legal
hearings, they run away to make everyday tasks such as food, beverages, find
lost children, washing the dust on a bit, to avoid the crowd not to be stepped
on and other things. . . Traders continue to offer, make more money on the occasion
of the director and occasional scuffles. Once, in the teachings of the
Dalai Lama, a Bhutanese farmer stepped on a coat of the original nomads in Kham
Tibet. Because
so unintentionally as this person was stabbed a fatal
stab.
I first came into contact with
such traditional Kalachakra. The Assembly ceremony like a Tantric mystic and strange.
Taking place
around the clock for two weeks rather than a strictly religious ceremony.
The birth
mother; elderly die. The Lama and meditation practitioners of any tree or in any
burrows that. The lovers sneaked to the river at night. All are equal here, around
the Kalachakra sand mandala in the middle of the village and now is the center
of the universe.
Spiritual energy flows from the
land of heat waves as in the distant horizon. Sleep full of dreams, life and
barely able to distinguish real experiences and dreams. Suddenly the end of the ceremony
as a marathon race ends with a few sporadic running
about.
The crowd slowly dispersed as not
to leave the place promised to gather again an adventure. Many people continue to sacred
places of pilgrimage in a month or two before returning home in the mountains.
Or that
valley in the Himalayan ranges. They returned to the fields and gardens or livestock.
With
monasteries, temples and pagodas. Or return to the refugee settlements scattered from
northern Ladakh to southern Mysore. Since then, the Dalai Lama has
repeatedly bestowed the Kalachakra. And I was lucky to attend several
times. I
heard that he will celebrate the three points in the next year: In Mongolia,
Dharamsala and New York. END=VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY GESHE TASHI TSERING.( MHDT ).14/4/2012.OM MANI PADME HUM.( 3 TIMES ).
