Why breathing & meditation ' eat ' in the UK?

I track visits of Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh into the UK this year with the big question in the beginning: what makes a teacher attracted the British public is attracted to?

Opening a discussion with parliamentarians, intellectuals, educators and social activities in the British houses of Parliament, Tuesday, March 27.
Followed by a talk in public on the evening of Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the cultural centre, Southbank, London with the theme: Finding true happiness and peace here, now. 2700 tickets for the event have sold out. The seat of the three-story building set.
Two days later, meditative sitting in Trafalgar Square at noon Saturday, March 31 drew more than 3,000 people to Zazen.
Then there is the Faculty Retreat scattered in the school. At the University of Nottingham, the five-day retreats (5-10/04/2012) with the theme of happy upbringing drew 900 people attended.
When Thich Nhat Hanh came to Ireland, the Irish Times newspaper has been posted on the front page on April 10, with the headline: the father of mindfulness. Public talk in Dublin drew 2000 people came to listen to on the evening of Wednesday, 11/04.
Than twice the teacher's previous tour to England in 2008 and 2010, this might be called ' success ', according to Ms. Sita Bland, a member of the Organizing Committee.
Behind that success? Why the preaching about meditation and mindfulness of Thich Nhat Hanh has power in a contemporary Western society to that?
' Meditation and Mindfulness '
Thiền thở
Breathing meditation are increasingly common in Western societies as a method of therapy helps to reduce stress, relieve pain, and depression.
Ms. Martina Nabi, PhD student, Faculty of history at the University of California, Berkeley, the United States explained that in contemporary Western society, the human mind is always busy thinking many things, about life, family, career, etc, it is very susceptible to stress.
In the context of that society, method of meditation and Mindfulness are easily absorbed because basically it is recommended one: do not think anything else. Please relax. Let's focus on the breath, breathe in ... breathe out. I know you are alive. I'm enjoying life in every moment is here.
It was a dreary Martina feels very realistic, easy to apply directly on their daily lives.
She adds a different reason: "I also love the exercise did not refer much to the supernatural. That it only focuses on how do I myself can find happiness in the world I live. "
And life, whatever the world everywhere, there are also many ' 3-wrath-AI-tarnished ' (happy, angry, love, hate) that occur on a daily basis. So, when Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh promised to solve the mundane misery through meditation and Mindfulness are the promise that becomes incredibly appealing.
"As practical, simple, effective, and easy to apply in everyday life is ' eat ' method of mindfulness of the teacher Thich Nhat Hanh. "
Sita Bland, from Yorkshire, England, a disciple of traditions of meditation by Thich Nhat Hanh
She is a devout Bland Sita Cypress meditation disciplines of Thich Nhat Hanh in Yorkshire, England, said she has applied this method in his work, to socialize with colleagues more efficiently.
She said: "When I am angry, I told myself. I want dialogue to solve it. I told colleagues that I need them to help to do that. "
Summary: "practical, simple, effective, and easy to apply in everyday life is ' eat ' method of mindfulness of the teacher Thich Nhat Hanh".
But meditation and Mindfulness really is? The concepts and methods of practice listening through seems very mystical and alien to Western society which has a tradition of Rationalists from.
I was chatting with some of her teachers, Professor the teacher Thich Nhat Hanh to learn ' what is ' mindfulness and why this method is attractive to contemporary Western society.
