The Indian government called the setup 9 bomb in the temple of Bodh Gaya is the act of "terrorist attacks". The temple complex Bodh Gaya (Bodhgaya) located in the state of Bihar, is the pilgrimage destination of millions of Buddhists and tourists from around the world.
No organization claimed responsibility for standing out the attack, but police previously said they warned officials that Islamic militants could target important places like Bodh Gaya to avenge actions against Islam in neighboring Myanmar.
"4 explosion occurred in the temple area. 3 cases occurred near the Karmapa monastery, including a blast near a Buddha statue and near the bus stop outside," Interior Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said to reporters.
Two other bombs were found and defuse inside the temple premises, the result is placed near the 24 m high Buddha statue. Two monks were injured, a 50-year-old, from Tibet, and a 30-year-old monk, came from Myanmar, was taken to hospital.
Security forces have intensified to the temple after the incident.
Gomarankadawala Hemarathana, monks from Sri Lanka 28 years old, witnesses at the scene, said one of the bombs was placed at the foot of the statue.
"It is wonderful when the Buddha statue was not damaged anything. Bomb placed at the foot of the statue, but did not explode," he said.
Apart from the temple complex there are dozens of places in the monastery for monks around the world. A few broken windows, a wooden door in the small temple was destroyed and a few fragments of another building.
Subject area Bodhgaya Bodhi tree is believed to be where the Lord Shakyamuni attained enlightenment Buddhism in 531 BC. Plants are not affected in the attack.
"Sacred Bodhi Tree completely safe and undamaged," Abhayanand, Bihar police chief told AFP .
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh condemned the blasts in the temple area is a UNESCO World Heritage site and said that "the attacks on places of worship would never be forgiven."
Deputy Minister of Indian Affairs RPN Singh said "it is clear that terrorist attacks" and investigating agencies are continuing to learn about the incident.
The attacks against Buddhism is quite rare in India, but concerns following widespread clashes between Buddhists and Muslims in Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh escalate over time.
Bodh Gaya temple complex located in Bihar's capital Patna 110 km to the south, is one of the most ancient temples of India. According to UNESCO, the first temple campus was built in the 3rd century BC and the other temples built in the 5th century, AD 6. After meditating under a bodhi tree here, the Buddha is said to have spent the rest of his life to preach until his death at age 80.
