Fortunately, the beneficial effects of meditation seem to apply to people of all ages, including adolescents and students with ADHD. Even better, the brain development that occurs during meditation is enduring, benefitting a person's brain long after a given meditation session.

The easiest way to start off when practicing guided relaxation is to count your breaths as you inhale and exhale. Your heart rate will start to slow down and your muscles will start to relax. When learning mindful relaxation meditation, remember to have a focus for the meditation. Many times the normal sounds of life that generally go unnoticed in your life are sources of irritation when you are first teaching yourself how to relax. If you are new to meditation the key is to start slow. That is go for short periods and build up. You will be surprised how quickly you become a meditation master.
Some people enjoy being mindful on their breathing technique, that is, their breathe. Other people enjoy being mindful on the various parts of their body. You can start with your toes and work your way up. Still others simply sit and let whatever arise to arise, dismiss it, and go back to the issue of mindfulness. The real secret is not to get frustrated. Of course, this is one benefit of meditation that you will learn and use throughout your life. Use whichever method that you find works best for you. Once you have tamed your thoughts you will have begun the very important step of mind training. This is critical in Buddhism.
