Buddhism Nirvana

I thought it was a really good example of how the wisdom of Buddha leads to Buddhism nirvana and resolves mind viruses or mind memes. This is a letter sent by email from a popular figure that sells and teaches about mind viruses or memes that affect us all. The original letter is black font and my added comments are red. In case you haven't heard a mind virus is also called a mind meme. This is something that Buddha recognized and dealt with ages ago. Buddhism Nirvana

Hi,I understand what I am about to say may sound crazy to you, but allow me to suggest the possibility that you have been totally brainwashed and you have unknowingly become your own worst enemy.
This is true. Many people are brainwashed. They are brainwashed by culture, art, movies, books, family, work -near everything- and what this guy's about to talk about is memes. A program that runs in your mind. This is why the Buddha talks about seeing reality, having the Right View -how things really are not just how they are currently perceived by your senses. Or, how you wish to see things.
In fact, this is exactly what is happening to millions of people. And most likely, you are one of them.
The vast majority of the people on earth are affected. The Buddha called this delusion. People are affected at both a personal level, societal level, and global levels.Buddhism Nirvana
What I am talking about is the SUBLIMINAL and SUBCONSCIOUS programming you are getting - programming that is imprinted on your subconscious without your knowledge.
Buddha called this The Three Fires, later called The Three Poisons. He taught people to clear themselves of this by extinguishing Hatred, Greed, and Delusion from your ways. Most people know what nirvana means. It means being enlightened or awakened (like Buddha or Jesus). Yet most people don't know it is a Sanskrit word that means... to extinguish -as in a flame.Buddhism Nirvana
I am not saying there is an organized conspiracy to program your mind. The people that are spreading these negative messages don't even know they are doing it!
It's true, at a conscious level people don't know they are doing it. This is why Buddha, and later, Jesus said to have compassion for those that act out on these mind memes as they don't know what they are doing. They don't. To cease hatred for these people as this is what extinguishes 'your' fires. This is the only way to cease their fires too.Buddhism Nirvana
The problem is as you are exposed to these mind viruses, you are likely to be infected. Just as exposure to raw sewage can cause you to be infected with germs, microbes and other nasty things, prolonged exposure to the media will infect your mind with many nasty viruses. Society spends billions of dollars to protect us from biological and computer viruses. Yet a mind virus can be the most dangerous of all.
This is true. A mind meme or virus can be dangerous. On national and global levels they cause wars, terrorism, acts of violence, etc. On a personal level they cause anxiety, fear, panic, discontent, sadness, depression, unease, conflicts with friends, coworkers and family, or what Buddha said is suffering.
One of the best things you can do to prevent mind viruses is stop following the news. Don't watch TV, don't listen to "talk" radio, don't read newspapers or magazines that have the news in them. Why? Because they all make their money by selling fear, lack, scarcity and limitation. Bad news is what sells.
One of the best things you can do to prevent mind viruses is to stop clinging. That is, don't be hooked by these events. Don't be hooked by the newscaster or reporter broadcasting. See what is really happening. To see and read these events is not the problem. To isolate yourself form reality is not the problem. The problem is when you cling to something that is false. Say, to watch the news because the reporting person appears attractive, or has an explosive personality, or there is some other hook. The Buddha taught not to cling, grasp or be ignorant.
In fact, to not acknowledge that these events are happening and do happen regularly is delusion. To live a life believing everything is only positive is delusional. Again, Buddha taught to not cling, to not grasp, to not attach and you will see truth. You may even go out and contribute to the betterment of life and humanity by showing compassion, understanding, love and care.Buddhism Nirvana
Open the average newspaper and you will see that 90% or more of what you read is negative news. The percentage is about the same for radio and TV. Do you really believe it is important to find out how many houses burnt down, how many people were robbed or killed in your city, state or another country? Do you really need to be reminded of the economic situation every day? Being exposed to all this negativity creates a negative view of the world and negative thought patterns in your mind.
It only creates a negative mind meme, pattern, view, or virus that affects you if you allow it to. That is, if you allow for greed, hatred and delusion. Study and live The Noble Eightfold Path to really free yourself.
When I tell people to skip the news, they invariably ask, "How will I know if there is a major world tragedy or natural disaster heading my way or terrorists striking near me?" Trust me. You will know about all the big stuff you need to know. Let's face it, the vast majority of your friends and neighbors follow the news so they can do the watching and reading for you. You still won't be able to escape it completely because most restaurants and shops now have the TV news on all day long. So if something major happens, you will know about it.
You may or may not know about it. It depends on what you do. The likelihood of being affected by something really major in the west is lower than other places in the world. But it happens. The better way is to be able to see the world for the way it really is. As a result you will not be affected by this stuff. You will understand the absolute truth that exist as well as the relative truth. Also, Buddha taught to live The Middle Way. That is, too much, or too little, is not the right path. Extremes, either way, are the problem. Extremes do not lead to nirvana.
I haven't watched the news for the past ten years. I don't read the newspaper either because I don't want or need to know about all the bad stuff. My life is about creating good stuff. Eliminate the news media from your life for the next 30 days and see what I mean.Buddhism Nirvana
The important point here is to create good stuff in your life. This can be done by following the path of Buddha. Watching the news in any format is not the resolve. The resolve is not clinging, removing delusion, and living the middle way -avoid extremes. Know the dharma.
Today will bring you a new awareness, a lesson or a manifestation that you are making progress - IF YOU LOOK FOR IT! No matter how large or small, please record it in your Evidence Journal. It will only take a few moments and will AUTOMATICALLY put you in the Flow.Buddhism Nirvana
If you follow the path that leads to nirvana then you won't have to look for it. You will experience it. Study the dharma without embellishing as Buddha Shakyamuni taught. It is well laid out, sensible and attainable without gimmicks. Not to mention an ancient wisdom that prevails today!Buddhism Nirvana
